•This meeting called to consider resignation of the Superintendent (General William H. Cocke). Superintendent’s resignation letter is read into the minutes

•Resolution accepting resignation to be drafted; this is read into the minutes
•Committee to present Gen. Cocke a testimonial of his service to VMI
•Committee to confer with Gen. John A. Lejeune with respect to his acceptance of the Superintendency. Committee is to explain policy “with reference to any apparent over emphasis on military training at the expense of academic training at the Institute, to explain further the contribution the Institute has always made to the civil life of the State….” If this policy is acceptable to Gen. Lejeune the committee is authorized to state to him that the Board unanimously desires to elect him Superintendent at a meeting to be held at an early date.”
