About this collection

The Military Oral History Project is an initiative of VMI's John A. Adams '71 Center for Military History and Strategic Analysis.  The Center sees a significant advantage in involving VMI cadets as interviewers, in archival research, in conference presentations, and in publication. Cadets use oral history techniques as part of their classroom work, for capstone and independent research projects, in prize competitions, and for summer internships.

The oral history collection spans the World War II era through recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.  The majority of the interviews were conducted by VMI cadets taking courses in military history. All interview transcripts are presented in complete full-text format and many interviews also include online audio excerpts.  The interview files and recordings are housed in the VMI Archives.

If you have questions about this digital collection, contact the VMI Archives. If you would like additional information about the Adams Center and its programs, please contact Dr. Bradley L. Coleman, Director of the Adams Center, VMI Department of History.
